UBC BAND AUDITIONS
We know auditions are weird. No one is comfortable with them. We get it.
But we encourage you to give it everything you’ve got anyway.
Remember, our goal is not to find the most talented people - our goal is to find the people that God wants to use on this team in this season. Whether it is on video or in-person, we just want to see your heart come through whatever music you have to offer.
We can’t wait to see what God has in store for this year!
Audition process
Round 1:
FIll out your application AND record 2 types of videos:
A video of you singing or playing your instrument to any worship song you enjoy.
If you would like to audition for multiple positions, just pick your two best instruments and submit one video per position.
Please record all audio and video in one take and do not edit your audio or video in any way.
Make sure that your vocal or instrument is clearly heard.
A brief video of you sharing your testimony.
Think about sharing it in this simple way:
Introduce yourself.
What do you believe Jesus accomplished through the cross?
When & how did you come to believe that?
Please keep this video under 3 minutes if at all possible.
Upload your videos to Youtube (private), Google Drive, or Dropbox. You can copy/paste the links to your videos in the appropriate spaces on the band application. (Just please make sure that the video permissions are set to allow us to see the video as long as we have the link.)
To apply, click the “Band Application” button below.
Round 2:
The band leaders will review all of the applications & videos and select a number of people to come in for an in-person audition & interview.
If you are requested to come in for the in-person auditions, they will take place on Sept 28th. A specific time will be given after the submissions are reviewed. For now, please try to keep some flexible time available that day until you hear back from the band leaders.
In-person auditions will be a time to come in and play/sing with some of our other UBC band members. You will be given 2 songs ahead of time so you can come prepared. Chord charts and listening links will be provided.
Vocalists are encouraged to be ready to sing the lead vocal on one of the songs and a harmony vocal on the other.
Instrumentalists are encouraged to learn the songs and prepare parts that are either similar to the recording or would fill the same musical space and fit the overall sound of the song. Feel free to be creative with your own ideas but please make sure they fit the song and follow the overall song structure.
Afterward :
After the in-person auditions, some will be selected for an interview with the band leaders. Those interviews will be scheduled for a separate time that works for you.
Once all the interviews have finished, the band leaders will select team members to fill the spots on our teams and new team members will start in January (or possibly sooner if there is a current need).
