Fall 2024 - Ministry Schedule Changes

Starting August 18, 2024, UBC will be adding a third Sunday morning worship service. With this change comes a series of updates in other areas such as U!Kids, Awana, Student Ministry, Members’ Meetings, and our new Membership Pathway that we want you to know about. These changes are taking place in an effort to better support our mission of helping people become disciples of Jesus Christ who know Him and make Him known.

We will continue to keep this information in front of you as we approach the dates of these changes. For now, please reference the FAQ sheet below or contact us with any questions you may have.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the three parts to this plan?. . .

  1. Move to 3 Worship Services on Sunday mornings.
  2. Adjust our U!Kids ministry schedule to align with the service schedule and split our Awana and Student Ministry schedules on Sunday afternoons/evenings to support these growing ministries.
  3. Transition from a Monthly Members’ Meeting to a Quarterly Members’ Meeting (QMM) format. As part of the planning process we tried to:
  • Consider the impact upon our members and families.
  • Coordinate with our Staff and ministries.
  • Continue UBC’s commitment to financial accountability and adherence to the church by-laws and constitution.

Why are we changing our ministry schedule?. . .

  1. Commitment to UBC’s Vision of “Helping people become wholehearted followers of Jesus Christ who know Him and make Him known.”
  2. Continuation of God’s multiple blessings and obvious growth at UBC.

What time will the three services start on Sundays?. . .

We will have three identical services at 8:00am, 9:30am, and 11:00am (livestream available on Facebook & YouTube at 9:30am)

Are we going to keep adding services if we keep growing?. . .

We are still focused on planting a new church or supporting another church's revitalization plan in the greater Dayton area. This will take priority over adding more services in the future.

Will Childrens Ministry be available during each service?. . .

Yes - “U!Kids” (for newborns through 5th grade) will be available during all three services.

What time will Awana begin?. . .

Awana will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2:00pm - 3:30pm.

What time will Student Ministry begin?. . .

"STUMIN" will be held on Sunday evenings from 5:30pm - 7:00pm.

When will these schedule changes go into effect?. . .

  1. Sunday, August 11th: 6th graders and parents only will meet at STUMIN's new evening start time.
  2. Sunday, August 18th: three Sunday morning worship service schedule begins. Student Ministry will begin full-group (6th-12th grade) meetings on this date.
  3. Sunday, September 8th: Awana begins.

Why are we splitting up Awana and Student Ministry?. . .

Splitting up the start times for Awana and STUMIN will benefit both ministries greatly. For Awana, it will allow them to have the full church building (UBC Main building) to themselves and open up 100+ spots for more kids to participate! For STUMIN, having the building (UBC Main) to themselves will provide the rooms they need for all of their small groups to meet at once which they couldn't do before. This will also benefit their leaders/speakers as they will be able to conduct the main teaching time with middle schoolers and high schoolers all together instead of splitting up and giving the same lesson twice.

Splitting up the schedule will also benefit these ministries from a safety/security standpoint as the only people that should be in the UBC Main building during these times are the people who are there for that specific ministry.

Why are Members' Meetings changing?. . .

The Members' Meeting schedule will be changing from once-per-month to once-per-quarter. We will have a meal and table discussions, followed by the meeting content. By changing the meeting format, we aim to make these meetings more family-friendly and engaging. By changing the frequency in which we hold these meetings, we aim to make them easier to schedule around and attend.

How will we maintain financial transparency when Members' Meetings occur less frequently?. . .

UBC's Finance Team will continue to meet on a monthly basis. They will provide monthly financial updates via email. This will include the Treasurer's Report which highlights income, expenses, and budget information as well as other financial information as appropriate. In addition to this monthly financial update email, the finance team will continue to provide written and verbal updates at our Quarterly Members' Meetings.

What is the new Membership Pathway?. . .

If a regular attender is interested in becoming a church member, they will be expected to go through a Membership Pathway which includes participating in (1) the UBC 101 class, (2) the Discover UBC group, (3) the Church Membership Class, (4) meeting with a church staff member, and (5) concluding with a vote at one of our Quarterly Members' Meeting.

Is there a summary of the desired impact this new schedule will have?. . .

  1. New parking lot - expected to be ready by the end of summer providing an additional 93 parking spaces available at UBC Main and reducing (or eliminating) the need to park accross the street.
  2. Three services - (1) Will begin on August 18, 2024 and will allow for over 600 more people to join us on Sunday mornings without needing overflow space. (2) Will provide more flexibility for adult classes on Sunday mornings and free up space to create a "Connection Room" for visitors.
  3. Awana & STUMIN Schedule Change - Splitting up the two schedules will allow each of the ministries to have the whole building (UBC Main) to themselves. (1) For Awana - the extra building space will allow them to open up spots for 100 more kids to participate this year! (2) For STUMIN - the extra space will allow all of their small groups to meet simultaneously and allow the whole group to be together for their main teaching session. (3) For both ministries, having the building (UBC Main) to themselves will help with safety and security during ministry functions.
  4. Quarterly Members' Meetings - BY changing the frequency and duration of our Members' Meetings, we aim to (1) make these meetings more meaningful for the whole church body, (2) create more of a family environment in our meetings, (3) make these meetings more accessible for those in our church who have had difficulty making it to these meetings in the past, and (4) coordinate our Members' Meeting with the "Membership Pathway" and continue to bring in new members in a meaningful way.
