Christmas in the Psalms

Sunday, January 1, 2023

We spent a good portion of this past week reflecting on 2022 and God’s work through UBC. Let’s use this week’s growth group to do the same within our smaller community.

First, read this week’s Psalm – Psalm 111. (Tip: go around circle reading one verse at a time)

Second, following the challenge to “let our remembrance be upon the Lord,” spend some time as a group remembering what the Lord has done: (1) personally, (2) as a family, (3) as a group.

-You might use the “nine characteristics of whole hearted disciples” as prompts for this time of sharing: “How have we see God working . . . ?

We want to Know Him:

  • Personally by receiving salvation through faith in Jesus

  • Biblically by believing the truth of Scripture

  • Prayerfully by communicating with God through the Spirit

  • Relationally by living in community with the church.

We want to Make Him Known:

  • Missionally by sharing the gospel with the unreached

  • Mercifully by caring for those who are in need

  • Generationally by training our children to know the Lord

  • Resourcefully by investing our resources in eternal things.

And we want to do all of this:

  • Worshipfully by loving Christ with our whole heart.

(or)

-You might center the time of sharing around the “blessings” of 2022 and the “challenges” of the past year. As the Psalms make clear, both the high’s and low’s are used by God in our lives.

Third, spend some time sharing prayer requests for 2023. (Tip: split up into 3’s and 4’s to pray for these requests).
