UBC Mission Update - 2022, Issue 4
Prayer Focus:
Andy & Anna Stroh - Pittsburgh Metro Cru
UBC recently began supporting members Andy and Anna Stroh who will be serving with Pittsburgh Metro Cru. They have two boys: three-year old Xander and one-year old Gus.
Prayer Requests
Ministry partners: We are in the middle of raising up partners to come alongside us financially and prayerfully. We are about 50% raised financially right now. We pray that God would lead us to the right partners, and that he would open their hearts for our ministry.
Health: Coming out of winter time, our two young boys have been very stuffy and sick. We would love prayer for God's healing hand on our family so that we might get well and stay healthy so we can better serve God in this time of meeting with people.
Ministry: We spent the month of January taking two Bible courses to further our training for ministry. Pray that we will be able to carry the things we learned from our classes with us, both personally and into our current season of ministry.
Recent Highlight:
Jim Corbin’s Trip to Argentina
Pastor Fabian Santillan, one of the missionaries supported by UBC, has begun engagement with the Quichua, Santiago del Estero, an indigenous people group in Argentina. According to the organization Finishing the Task, this group is one of the last remaining ethnolinguistic, unengaged, unreached people groups that has not been adopted in the efforts to reach the unreached. UBC recently adopted this group through Finishing the Task. We will begin this process as a church by committing to pray for them on a regular basis. In February, Jim Corbin went to Argentina and joined Pastor Fabian and his team as they went to two separate areas where the Quichua are residing in the province of Santiago del Estero. During the visit, the team engaged in prayer and were able to share the gospel with 44 people, 22 of these accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior! These are among the first members of this people group to become followers of Jesus, with 5 of the new believers recently baptized.
There will be other trips to go back to help engage this people group, if interested please contact Jim (jim@corbins4him.com or 937-623-9434).
Spotlight:
Reaching Salt Lake City with the Gospel
Two of our student members, Chris Hile and Michael White, traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah over spring break on one of Cedarville University’s Global Outreach trips.
Chris led the team of 22 students to partner with Gospel Grace, a church of about 400 attendees in the heart of the city. Salt Lake City could almost be classified as unreached, with less than 3% evangelicals and one gospel-preaching church for every 15,000 residents. The group’s primary task was to engage in gospel conversations with members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, formerly known as Mormons. The LDS Church believes in a skewed gospel that is man-centered and works-driven, but they are equally as committed to their faith as we are to ours. Chris said they were able to have good conversations, but that evangelism to LDS people is a long-term endeavor. He asked the church to pray for Utah in these specific ways:
1. Pray that the members of Gospel Grace Church find continual encouragement and joy in the Lord and in the fellowship of His people; it can be a draining and heavy culture to live in.
2. Pray that the Lord would soften the hearts of people in the LDS church to hear and respond to the one true gospel.
3. Pray that those who have been hurt or disillusioned by the LDS church would recognize the difference in the way Gospel Grace members conduct themselves, and turn to Christ Jesus instead of worldly pursuits.
This summer, Chris will return to Gospel Grace Church for an internship from May 31 to July 28. During this time, he will assist with Plant Camp, a program by the church designed to teach youth groups from all over the U.S. about the local church, including planting strategies, evangelism, and discipleship.
“You can be praying for me to enter the summer with a humble heart that is willing to serve in any capacity needed, and as I seek to raise financial support for my time there. If you have questions or would like to hear more about what the Lord is doing in Salt Lake City, please reach out to me and I would love to talk more about it!” -Chris
