UBC Mission Update - 2022, Issue 9

Spotlight & Prayer Focus:

M & A - Missionaries to the Arab World

Earlier this year, UBC began supporting missionaries, M & A, who will be heading to the Arab world this winter to join a church planting team. Their first two years will focus on language learning and culture acquisition. In this hard-to-reach area, being able to communicate well and understand the cultural differences are paramount to communicating the gospel. After completing this program, M & A plan to proclaim the gospel of Christ and are praying toward a church being planted in this unreached group.

Prayer Requests:

  1. Pray for final support to come in (5% remaining!)

  2. Pray for good goodbyes to loved ones.

  3. Pray for the sorting and selling process with our belongings.

  4. Pray for a good finish to our ministry at our home church.

Recent Highlight:

Braden Cowell - Medical Mission Trip in Guatemala

Braden is a UBC member currently enrolled in the Pharmacy program at Cedarville University.

I joined Caring Partners International and several Cedarville professors and students on a medical mission trip to Santa Elena Barillas, Guatemala. We set up our clinic in an old municipal building near the center of the town and worked with the local church there to invite people from the community. We set up vision screening with donated glasses, a doctor's station with clinicians from our team, a chiropractic and physical therapy station, a pharmacy with donated medications, and even a dental station with the chairs and tools you would see at any dentist here! I got the privilege of working at the pharmacy, the vision screening station, and with the doctors. Our translators were super helpful in communicating the needs of the people and allowing us to care for them well. It was also such a blessing to see smiles of recognition as I practiced the few Spanish phrases I had learned.

My favorite part of the clinic, however, was our "Clinic of the Soul" (pictured above). Here, members from the local church came and preached the gospel and prayed with all 695 people who came through. It was amazing to see the work that God did, and over 70 people made decisions for Christ. The church, Nueva Jerusalem, will continue to pour into the lives of the people that came and those who heard about us through the community.

Please pray:

  1. That the church would be strengthened and encouraged to continue ministering to its community

  2. That those who were saved could be discipled well and go on to serve the church with joy

  3. That God would provide greater access to medical care in the region

  4. That the future trips that Caring Partners has planned to the town would continue to impact the community and grow the church and that future teams would be kept safe as we were

  5. For the pastors and congregation of the church to be bold for Christ and continue to preach the gospel

Opportunity:

The Serve Tour Comes to Dayton - October 7 & 8

We have a unique opportunity to make an impact right here in the Miami Valley! Send Relief, a compassion ministry of the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board, has selected Dayton as one of the cities on their Serve Tour.

Projects may include some light construction, painting and landscaping, and hosting sports camps or block parties. These projects will serve local churches, bivocational pastors, low-income schools and other organizations in need of assistance.

Sign up with a team to serve on October 7th and 8th!
