UBC Mission Update - 2022, Issue 10

Spotlight & Prayer Focus:

Emily - Central Africa

This month we are spotlighting Emily. She is a young lady that UBC is partnering with prayerfully and financially. She has stepped out in obedience to God's call on her life. This journey began in 2017 and she has continued faithfully preparing to be used mightily by God. This has included a two-year focused study in the Word, two years studying cross cultural-church planting, and a year of linguistics. Last year and this year, her focus has been on support raising, as well as taking courses to improve interpersonal skills, and writing a doctrinal statement while serving in a church in California. Emily’s timeline has her heading to central Africa in 2023. For the next 3-4 years, she will be learning the local language and culture while engaging with the local church. She will be part of a team whose goal will be taking the Gospel to frontier unreached peoples and planting churches. These are peoples in which there is no confirmed, sustained gospel movement. One fourth of the world lives in these frontier people groups (FPGs) and they have almost no chance of hearing about Jesus from someone in their own people group. About half the population of all FPGs live in just 38 groups, and each of these includes ten million or more people.

Please pray for Emily:

  • As she finishes her stateside preparation and begins final plans to travel to central Africa

  • For the remainder of financial support to be raised. She is currently 55% funded and needs to be at 75% before leaving the states (hopefully the end of January)

  • To finish strong serving at the church in California

Recent Highlight:

Isaac - North Africa Mission Trip

Isaac serves on UBC’s Core Mission Team. He is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at Cedarville University with a concentration in Missions. He provided this update on his recent mission trip.

This past summer I had the amazing opportunity to go on a trip to the Arab world to learn about the culture and to build relationships with English speakers in the area. We had the opportunity over the summer to build relationships with people and to hopefully share the truth about who Jesus is. It was so very humbling going into a country that is very hard hearted to the gospel. We spent a lot of time there praying for God to make people curious about the gospel for we knew that we couldn’t do anything beyond His power. I learned a lot about prayer and our need to depend fully on God, and how even in an extremely spiritually rough terrain, He is doing miraculous works that transform stone hearts to hearts of flesh.

Please pray:

  • For the long-term workers to be able to reconnect with people that we were able to become friends with.

  • For the friends that we made to continue to have their hearts softened to truth and the gospel.

Opportunity:

Operation Christmas Child Details

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a great way for UBCers of all ages to get involved with spreading the good news everywhere. You can pack boxes as a family (have your kids help with shopping), enjoy fellowshipping with your growth group during a packing party, and/or join us for the church-wide packing party on November 12th. Every child that receives a box hears the gospel presentation and is given the opportunity to participate in a 12-week discipleship program called The Greatest Journey.

Along with these opportunities, during the month of October the Mission Team will be collecting hygiene items (soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, combs, etc.). These can be dropped off at the Mission Table in the Welcome Center at UBC Main and near the coffee area at East.

Shoebox collection will begin October 30th and run through November 13th this year.

Some important points to remember as you pack your box:

  1. PRAY, PRAY, PRAY

  2. NO liquids (including toothpaste) or food of any kind

  3. Shoebox shipping costs have increased to $10/box. You can pay for shipping in a variety of ways (place the money in your shoebox, scan the QR code and donate through the link and track your box, or donate directly on https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/label-options/)

  4. Include a note and a picture! Children who receive these boxes enjoy seeing the face of the person who loves them so much to give them a present.
