Acts - Week 28

Sunday, August 14th, 2022

  1. Read Acts 13:4-12

  2. In vs. 4, we see Saul (Paul) and Barnabas headed to Cyprus – what’s the significance of that destination?

  3. Review Luke’s description of Bar-Jesus (Elymas).  What do we know about the guy?

    • What kind of person is he?

    • If you were painting a portrait of him, describe it.

  4. Do the same for the character, Sergius Paulus.

  5. Compare and contrast these two men and their roles in this passage.

  6. What did Jason tell us about the significance of the name change to Paul?

  7. Note some of the ironies in this story and Luke’s “play on words.”  (Hint:  light, blindness, etc)

  8. Explain the significance of the phrase, “hard words for hardened people,” for this passage.

  9. Reflect on times in your life where you experienced the “hand of discipline” from the Lord and how He used those hard times.

    • Share other examples where God has used “potential” roadblocks in your life as part of your path in life?

  10. When has Satan played the role of “Worm-tongue” in your life?

    • What specific lies has he told you?

    • How did you respond?

    • What has helped you withstand them?

  11. Given the fact that God’s work brings both opposition and victory, what should be our attitude?  Expectations?  Responses?

  12. Spend some time praying for those who are currently facing roadblocks or specific opposition – whether in your group, friends, or family.
