Acts - Week 41

Sunday, February 12, 2023

First, remind the group about the upcoming meeting regarding the candidate for the Pastor for Connections and Community Life position (Bill Letcher):

  • Membership vote to be held at our Members’ Meeting this Sunday, 2/19, at 6:30.

Second, spend some time praying about this vital decision for the future of UBC.

Third, have someone read this week’s text: Acts 17:16-34. (or read it one verse at a time as you go around the circle)

  1. Review the physical context of this interaction between Paul and the people in Athens. (totally secular gentiles, marketplaces, philosophers, and the Areopagus).

    1. What might be similar circumstances today?

    2. How might this conversation sound in our culture today?

    3. Anyone have a personal example?

  2. What was Paul’s “bridge” in his presentation of the Gospel? (Hint: see vv. 22-24)

    1. How might that same bridge sound in a conversation today?

    2. What other bridges might we use today? (common questions faced by people where the answer is provided by the Gospel)

  3. What were the three responses to Paul’s proclamation (see vv. 32-33)?

    1. Have you faced any these types of responses when presenting gospel?

  4. Why was there such a big hang-up over the resurrection?

    1. Why the negative response?

    2. Why was Paul so forceful in its inclusion? (see Rom. 10:9-10, I Cor. 15:3-4)

  5. Share about any people you are praying for when it comes to gospel conversations. Finish by praying, once again, both for the Pastoral search and the lost loved ones mentioned earlier.
