Acts - Week 42

Sunday, February 19, 2023

First, have someone read this week’s text: Acts 18:1-17. (or read it one verse at a time as you go around the circle)

  1. Review what has happened most recently in the narrative of Paul’s second missionary journey (you might just work backward to last week in Athens and beyond.)

  2. Share some general observations about this week’s episode in Corinth:

    1. What kind of city was Corinth? What types of people?

    2. Who are the main characters in this story? How does Luke describe them?

    3. Is there any significance to time and place when/where events happen?

    4. Is there any conflict in the episode?

    5. What surprises you in this passage?

    6. Does Luke make any key editorial comments as he describes the events? How might his comments illuminate the event?

    7. If you were to use one sentence to describe what happens in this passage, what would it be? (note: not necessarily Jason’s applicational major point)

  3. Application

    1. What’s the significance of Paul’s tent-making profession? How does that apply to us and our professions today? What does it say about the purpose and value of our professions?

    2. What was the significance of baptism in the episode? How does that parallel the point of baptism for us today?

    3. How does the “preoccupation with the word” (cf. v. 5) speak to our situation today? Reflect on some of Jason’s applicational comments about this (this was his first major application point at the end of the sermon).

      1. Reflect on Jason’s prayer challenge: “Show me” and “use me.”

      2. Why can this be so difficult to do? What are the struggles?

      3. Does anyone want to share any stories of either struggle or success?

  4. As we’ve done the last few weeks, end by sharing about those you are praying for when it comes to gospel conversations.
