  • Genesis 25:1-26

Main Idea: As God sovereignly works to accomplish all his purposes, he fulfills all his promises and he calls all his people

What does this passage teach us historically?

  • Abraham had other sons given by Keturah as another wife.

  • God’s promise of many nations coming from Abraham in Genesis 17 is beginning to be seen in this chapter.

  • Abraham gives his other children gifts but all the inheritance goes entirely to Isaac.

  • God’s promises to Ishmael prove to be true in this passage related to his sons and dwelling place.

  • Rebekah was barren before Isaac prayed to God and his prayer was answered for children.

  • God sovereignly chose Jacob as the son of promise.

  • Jacob was not the choice you might expect.

What does this passage teach us theologically?

  • God sovereignly fulfills his promises for His purposes.

  • God sovereignly carries out election for his purposes.

How does this passage apply to our lives?

  • Make sure you are ready for your death day.

  • If you are saved, thank God that He chose you
