Main Idea: As God sovereignly works to accomplish all his purposes, he fulfills all his promises and he calls all his people
What does this passage teach us historically?
Abraham had other sons given by Keturah as another wife.
God’s promise of many nations coming from Abraham in Genesis 17 is beginning to be seen in this chapter.
Abraham gives his other children gifts but all the inheritance goes entirely to Isaac.
God’s promises to Ishmael prove to be true in this passage related to his sons and dwelling place.
Rebekah was barren before Isaac prayed to God and his prayer was answered for children.
God sovereignly chose Jacob as the son of promise.
Jacob was not the choice you might expect.
What does this passage teach us theologically?
God sovereignly fulfills his promises for His purposes.
God sovereignly carries out election for his purposes.
How does this passage apply to our lives?
Make sure you are ready for your death day.
