Generations: Week 5
Sunday June 07, 2020
In general, how is your memory? Are you quick to forget things or do you remember every detail of every situation?
Have you ever had a situation where your forgetfulness caused some problems or got you into trouble?
Read Psalm 78:8 aloud.
What worldly narratives are you most tempted to believe that may crowd out the truths of God?
In the sermon, Dr. James Risner challenged us not to “forget” God-like the Ephraimites. He described 3 traps they fell into:
They followed their own agenda
They forgot the goodness & might of God
They focused on their feelings
Which trap are you the most vulnerable to right now?
If you have a hard time submitting to God’s plan over your own agenda, in what ways are you missing the goodness & might of God?
James said there are many sources in the world that intentionally lead people to despair.
When you look at the world today, do you find yourself easily drawn to despair?
Which one does our culture put a higher priority on: feelings or facts?
Which do you often prioritize?
When you are tempted to focus on your feelings, what are some scriptural truths you can cling to in order to remain steadfast?
Are you making scripture a priority?
Who do you have in your life that helps you avoid “spiritual amnesia”?
How quick are you to let them in when you are struggling?
Are there any changes you need to make to the normal rhythms of your life in order to better focus on Jesus and prevent further “spiritual amnesia”?
