Generations: Week 6
Sunday June 14, 2020
Do you have a favorite memory/story of your grandparent[s]?
If you could use 2 words to describe your grandparents, what would they be?
What 2 words do you think would apply to you as a grandparent? (If you are not yet a grandparent, try to think about what kind of grandparent you are likey to become. For those in Growth Groups, you can let the others in your group answer this question for you.)
From your perspective, what is 1 specific thing that senior citizens uniquely offer to society?
What do they uniquely offer to the church?
How often do you seek the counsel of your grandparents or others from their stage of life?
As we have done many times through this series, take a few minutes to read Psalm 78:1-8 aloud.
What lessons are you (will you) pass to your kids that you got from your parents and your grandparents?
In the sermon, Scott Dixon said we must view life and discipleship as a multi-generational thing. Why, then, are we so prone to flock to those who are in our own stage of life?
As you think about your personal perspective of other generations (younger or older), what is something you know you need to “reframe” to align to God’s view (as shown through scripture) of them?
What lies does our culture tell about the older generation (grandparents)?
What beliefs inform those lies?
How is UBC doing at keeping the generations connected to each other?
What are we doing well?
What areas need improvement?
How can you help bridge the gap?
As you finish today, take some time to pray for those from different stages of life than your own. Specifically, pray for UBC’s senior adults to love and be loved well in the ministry of our church.
*If you find yourself unable to confidently say that you’ve been saved by Jesus, please reach out to your Growth Group or our church staff. We’d love to help!
