The Church - Week 1
Sunday September 13, 2020
At the beginning of the sermon, Jason talked about a handful of reasons that people tend to get involved with the church: people/family, guilt, crisis, kids, etc. What drew you to get involved in the church? Were there any hurdles or barriers that had kept you from getting involved sooner?
As we begin this 12 week series on The Church, Jason said “The more we understand our need for the church, the more we will appreciate the doctrine of the church.” Take some time to re-read the passage that we dove into first to help us understand our need for the church - I Timothy 3:14-16.
Can someone be a Christian without being part of the church?
In vs 15, Paul refers to the church as the “household” of God. What are some differences between viewing the church as a “household” versus a “house”?
Describe a time when you saw firsthand that the church was family (or household).
Also in vs 15, Paul says that the church is meant to be a “pillar” for the truth. What are some of the key ways that the church upholds the truth? Where do you see the modern church struggling to uphold the truth?
“Behavior follows belief.” Discuss the difference between believing with your mind versus believing with your life.
What is the mystery or revelation that vs 16 is describing? Why is it so important?
Was there anything else from the sermon that stood out to you?
