Why We're Here - Week 3 - Knowing Him Biblically

Sunday, September 12, 2021

  1. This was our 3rd week in this “Why We’re Here” series. Review the first 2 weeks. What was the big point of each week? Is there anything about those first 2 weeks that you are still processing?

  2. At the beginning of the sermon, Jason used an analogy about a group of blind men trying to describe an elephant. In light of that analogy, why is scripture important to a real understanding of God?

  3. This week was all about knowing God BIBLICALLY. Take some time to read II Timothy 3:14-17 aloud.

  4. In this passage, why are the phrases “sacred writings” and “breathed out by God” important? What are they implying? (See also I Thes 2:13)

    • Why is the topic of “Biblical Inspiration” so vital to us (individually) and the church as a whole? Why does it matter?

  5. Using Biblical wording (and preferably specific references), how does the Bible describe God? What does it say about who He is?

    • Is there one of those Biblical descriptions of God that has been especially real to you lately?

  6. Jason said that the Bible is like our glasses that help us see things rightly. What are some other types of “glasses” people tend to use to view life other than the Bible? (note - personal experience is a HUGE one!)

  7. Our need to know God Biblically is also important due to the amount of false teaching that is all around us. Have you ever had a personal experience with a “false teacher”?

  8. Read II Timothy 4:3-4. How have you seen Paul’s warnings in these verses play out today? (Make it personal - have you seen this play out in your spiritual journey? Or among your family, friends, etc?)

  9. We were challenged to make sure that we have a plan for regular, meaningful Bible intake. Why is this important?

    • What is your personal plan/method for meaningful time in the Word?

    • What verses or passages of Scripture have really touched you lately?

  10. How can [how does] UBC help us pursue a Biblical knowledge of God?

    • What has been most impactful for you?
