True Light - Week 2
Sunday, December 5, 2021
Last week, we focused on who the True Light was - Jesus, in his divinity, vitality, and victory. This week, we focus on the role of the witness to the True Light. Read John 1:6-8.
For clarity, there are 2 Johns referenced here - the one writing and the one whom the writer is describing. Who’s who? What are the distinctions between the 2?
Verse 7 describes John as a “witness”. What is a witness?
Through vs 6-8, what words/phrases give us a better understanding of the kind of witness that John the Baptist was?
How do Ephesians 2:10 and Psalm 139:16 help us understand OUR purpose, value, and role as a witness?
Later in John 1, we see John the Baptist share the “why” of his witness. What was John the Baptist’s message? (See John 1:29-34)
Think about the sun / moon analogy that Jason shared in the sermon - what is different about the sun and the moon? How do they work together? What is the purpose of the moon? What do those things teach us about the role of a witness?
What are the potential dangers of confusing the reflection (witness) with the Light?
Have you ever found yourself putting too much hope in the witness instead of the Savior? If so, what did you learn from it?
What is the real motive of a witness? (See John 20:31)
Why does it matter that people see Jesus in this way?
Who was the witness that God used to show you the light of Christ? How did they do that?
What are 1-2 ways that you (or our group) can be a witness to the True Light of Jesus this Christmas? (be specific)
"If you’ve seen the light, show the light.”
