Acts - Week 25

Sunday, July 24th, 2022

  1. This week, we had the pleasure of having James Risner continue our series in Acts. James serves as the Associational Missionary for the GDAB. Who remembers what “GDAB” stands for? Also, what does the GDAB do and why is UBC a part of it? (See Caleb & James’ explanation here.)

  2. What are some of the major themes we are seeing in our last few weeks in the book of Acts?

  3. Read Acts 11:19-30.

  4. Verses 19-21 reference the story of Stephen. What happened to him and what does this passage say is happening because of what happened to him?

  5. Verse 21 indicates a specific source for this growth. What was it?

    • What are some other “secret sauce” things that we tend to think will lead to church growth but don’t really seem to do the trick?

  6. What are some quick application points we can take from these 3 verses (vs 19-21)?

  7. Verse 23 says Barnabas “saw the grace of God” at the church in Antioch. How do you see the grace of God here at UBC?

  8. Look at the description of Barnabas in this passage - what are some of the things that he was known for?

    • Who do you know that would have a similar description? Anyone in your group?

  9. In verse 26, we see the first time a group are identified as “Christians”. What does the word “Christian” mean? How was it used in this passage? (See James’ explanation here.)

    • How do we tend to build “identity” today?

    • What is the significance of us being called “Christian” today?

  10. What are some potential points of tension or discomfort when we consider verses 27-30

    • Have we seen anything in our day that could relate to this? If so, how would our response compare to the disciples in this passage?

  11. How is the Lord challenging you to partner together with others to join in what He is doing?

    • What are the steps you need to take this week?
