Acts - Week 43

Sunday, February 26, 2023

First, have someone read this week’s text: Acts 18:18-23.

  1. Do you ever wonder why certain passages are in the Bible? What can be helpful to remember as we’re reading the Bible (see 1 Tim. 3:16-17, Rom. 15:4)?

  2. Paul does a few curious things in this passage: 1) He has his hair cut and 2) He says “no” to further ministry in Ephesus. Why is this in our Bibles? What can we learn from Paul’s example (see 1 Cor. 9:19-23; Acts 20:32; James 4:13-16)?

  3. The sovereignty of God was the big idea from this passage. What does it mean that God is sovereign? (see Prov. 19:21, Jer. 32:17, Ps. 115:3)

    1. Supply an illustration from scripture of God’s sovereignty at work.

    2. Supply a personal story.

  4. Group Work (break into 3 smaller groups to discuss and then come back to share findings): Trusting our sovereign God changes the way we think, speak and act. What difference would it make to trust His sovereignty in these areas:

    1. Relationships with others - see Rom. 12:9-21

    2. Our daily work - see Col. 3:22-25

    3. The salvation of unbelievers - see 2 Cor. 4:1-6

    4. *Note: Explore what it would look like to not trust God’s sovereignty in this area and what difference that would make.

  5. How can we pray to our sovereign God for each other this week?
