MHK Refresh - Make Him Known Everywhere

Sunday, November 13, 2022

We focused this week on “Making Him Known Everywhere” and what it means to share Christ/Gospel with the world. Read our passage: Psalm 96.

  1. Review the background to the book of Psalms and how Psalm 96 is actually a reflection of the song in I Chronicles 16. (Hint: recovery of the Ark of the Covenant from the Philistines)

Big idea for this week’s sermon: “To make Christ known everywhere, we must be committed to calling the nations to join us in proclaiming God’s glory.”

First, we must proclaim God’s glory in creation (v. 5).

  1. Contrast the God of Israel with the God of the pagan nations.

  2. Review the definition and role of “general revelation.” See Romans 1:20. How does general revelation as opposed to special revelation affect our outreach to the nations?

  3. What did Jason mean when he compared creation to a “glory choir”?

Second, we must proclaim God’s glory in splendor (vv. 6-8).

  1. Define and refine the concept of “giving glory to God.” (Hint: you can’t give something to someone who has everything.)

  2. Quickly scan Psalm 96 to make a list of ways we can give Glory to God.

  3. How does the idea of giving glory to God change the following actions:

    • Our singing?

    • Our giving?

    • Our sharing of our faith?

  4. Focus on verse 9 and what it means to “tremble” before the Lord?

Third, we must proclaim God’s glory in His reign (vv. 10 & 13).

  1. Describe the coming reign of the Lord. Contrast His reign with the current reigns of the nations.

  2. Jason challenged us to describe God’s coming reign by looking at the life of Jesus. How does that add to our understanding?

Jason ended the sermon by giving some specific ways the MHK campaign will allow us to make Christ known everywhere. He gave three specific ways.

  1. One of those ways was via church planting. Ask if anyone in the group has had any experience in church planting. Discuss what that could mean at UBC in future days.

  2. End your time praying for UBC and our mission to make God known “everywhere.”
