Psalm 103

Sunday, November 27, 2022

Begin by reading the passage: Psalm 103.

1. What is the significance of David’s rhetorical strategy in this Psalm? (Hint: to whom is he speaking?)

2. Describe some of your observations about our inner dialogues.

o Do you find yourself talking to yourself more or listening?

o What are some of the most common topics of discussion?

3. Why would someone say that much of our unhappiness comes from the fact that we listen to ourselves rather than talk to ourselves? Give an illustration.

4. Contrast biblical meditation with meditation as practiced by eastern religions.

To “remember” in the bible is to remember something so that it controls how you act or to have something dominate your consciousness so that it controls your behavior.

5. Scott used an example of a tarantula. Can you think of any other illustrations?

Spend some time reviewing the strategy of TACS.

Teaching

Adoration

Confession

Supplication

6. How might this strategy help in the spiritual discipline of meditating?

7. Review one of examples in Psalm 103 mentioned by Scott to practice TACS:

o Vv. 3-5 (The Lord crowns us with mercy.)

o Vv. 6-8 (The Lord abounds in steadfast love.)

o Vv 18-19. (The Lord rules.)

8. If you have time, use another of the set of verses below to practice:

o Vv. 13-14

o Vv. 15-17

9. How does Isaiah 49:14-16a help us remember the benefits of the Lord?
