Read Acts 23 together.
Review the main idea and main application point:
During the problems of life, we need to remember the providence of God.
What is a good definition of providence?
Heidelberg Catechism question 27 of 1563 defined providence this way:
Question: What do you understand by the providence of God?
Answer: The almighty, everywhere present power of God, whereby, as it were, by his hand, he still upholds heaven and earth with all creatures and so governs them that herbs and grass, rain and drought, fruitful and barren years, meat and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty, indeed, all things come not by chance, but by his fatherly hand.
NOTE: This definition is for you as a leader. If you believe your group would benefit from hearing this definition please share but not necessary.
How does God’s providence or his good purposes affect your perspective regarding current struggles?
Consider 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Your friend has lost her husband in a tragic car accident and is grieving the loss with her three children. How does the providence of God apply to this situation?
“Just because something is true, does not give you clearance to say whatever you want.” Jason made this statement when discussing Paul’s interaction with the High Priest. How do you balance speaking truth while also remaining respectful?
Was Paul justified to call the High Priest a “white washed wall?”
What are some examples in your life of respecting the office even if the officer is not respectable?
“We don’t know his purpose but we can know his presence.” Discuss this statement and close out your time together in prayer.
