Main Idea: Don’t hesitate to buy in now to God’s inheritance for your future

What does this passage teach us historically?

  • Abraham identifies as a sojourner and foreigner in his own promised land

  • Abraham is respected by the people in the land.

  • Abraham has a specific place in mind and seems to seek an honest marketplace transaction among the hittite leaders.

  • Ephron treats Abraham as a kinsman and freely offers him the cave to bury Sarah yet Abraham refuses

  • Abraham pays full price and does not allow any undeclared indebtedness to the pagan people of the land.

  • Abraham interacts with wicked men fairly, courteously, and prudently.

  • Abraham with this purchase fully cements his commitment to the promise of God that this land would be the land of his people.
