Genesis Part 1

Main Idea: If you are a part of the family of God, Genesis is a part of your family history.

Organization of Genesis:

Section one: Four Great Events

  • Creation (Chapters 1-2)

  • Fall (Chapters 3-5)

  • Flood (Chapters 6-9)

  • Tower (Chapters 10-11)

Section two: Four Great Men

  • Abraham (Chapters 12-23)

  • Isaac (Chapters 24-26)

  • Jacob (Chapters 27-36)

  • Joseph (Chapters 37-50)

Three themes

  • Creation

  • Corruption

  • Covenants

Questions for greater discussion:

  • What are some reasons you have struggled to study Old Testament texts? What are some questions you have about Genesis going into this study? (group leaders please report back to me on this!)

  • What are some areas of Genesis you are hoping to learn more about? How firm are you on historical truths from Genesis? Do you struggle with any of the sections of this book and believing in them?

  • How does Genesis help us understand the person and work of Christ? (Genesis 3:15, 12:1-3 could be helpful here. Think through the concept of covenants Jason talked about).

  • What are some areas you think Genesis can help you grow theologically? 

Main idea of the book: Genesis takes us on a journey through the dawn of God’s creation, the descent into sin’s corruption, and the blessing of God’s covenants.
